Puppies, Scotties and Cherries

I don't dress in fancy stuff all the time, this is a usual day errand running outfit.
Altho we are having an early cold snap, I still refuse to rug up in boots and tights.

I also wore it a few days later, but it was a non hair washing day so a headscarf came out and I added an Erstwilder Scotty brooch.

My Bakelite Collection

I had to take photos of my Bakelite collection this week to accompany an interview I have been asked to do, so thought I would share them with you all as well.  To date this is my collection above.  As I type there are a few bits and bobs making their way to me in the mail system.......as usual.

I do have a spend limit on my pieces, and that limit is quite low as to what Bakelite is now worth.  As a result I have to choose wisely and find those BARGAINS! For instance, I won't pay more than $10 per spacer bangle.

They are displayed on velvet bracelet tiered racks.  I found these on eBay for $16 each plus about $20 delivery from China.  I color arrange my bangles as I find it makes it much more time efficient when matching outfits.

The bottom row, bar the end Bakelite elastic bracelet, is all celluloid and vintage copper.  I love my Aztec copper cuffs to death and want more.  They are hard to come by now and when I do see them they are usually priced way too high.

And the 'bits n bobs'.  My earring collection is quite small.....I need to remedy this.  But a lot of Bakelite earrings come as clip ons, which aggravate my ears, and I absolutely refuse to convert them to posts.  This is vintage BARBERY, SAVAGERY and completely devalues them.  DO NOT DO IT.

I do like the screw on style tho, you can tighten these to your liking and they do not hurt my fragile lobes.  The earring posts you can find more on the 70's Bakelite pieces.

The above is my current 'favourite' pile.  The bottom marbled on the right and the pink are from Brighter Bakelite, so they have been freshly polished and have the most amazing colors.

I would love to see your stash of Bakelite if you want to send me a link!

Pinup Girl Clothing Birdie Dress

Now that it's quite chilly, it's time to pull out the long sleeve and warmer dresses.  This mustard floral concoction by Pinup Girl Clothing is seeing light for the first time and it was rather colourful on a dreary day.  They have since released 3 new color ways in the Birdie, but this Bright Yellow remains my favourite.  Who else has a Birdie dress?

Teddy Bear Nail Polish!

At a Karon Beach Market in Phuket (the same market where we ate caterpillars, but that's another story) I found these damn cute nail polish bottles!  Shaped like a teddy bear and from the Thai brand ARMY Nail Color.  Unfortunately I cannot find any other details about this brand and the bottles seemed to be numbered rather than named.  They converted to 66 cents each AUD, so they were a MEGA bargain.

This color is number 7 and is a lovely Vampy Blood Red, my fave shade of polish.  It wore extremely well, 4 days without chipping before I tired of it.  It does stink, so obviously not 3 free.  I grabbed the only colors that appealed to me, the rest were rather frosty looking.

Has anyone else seen this brand and bottle shape around?

Tribal Trashiness

It's officially cold.  This is especially unfair as I have spent the last 3 days flicking thru Viva Las Vegas Instagram poolside photos of you all having a fabulous time.

Pout.

Hairstyle was influenced by The Glamourous Housewife's latest video tutorial.

And my $2.69 "authentic reproductions" Kenzo sunglasses from Phuket.

Supernova Melbourne!

Are you a nerd?  I'm not...only a little bit.  But the rest of the family are into comics big time so we do all the comic related shows.  Fortunately for us, Australia has seen a spike of Con's starting up in the last couple of years.  I think there are 3 on in Melbourne in 2014!

Supernova was on last weekend and we went on the Saturday.  Big mistake.  The place was so packed you could hardly move and I felt a little claustrophobic.  Next year we are definitely going on a Sunday.

Miss 5 was a beautiful Ballerina, Miss 12 as Lady Loki and Miss Cousin was a girl tiger with chicken feet.  Miss 12 spent weeks making her costume, including sewing it all herself.  Her Dad helped her make her sceptor and she stole a pair of my boots.  After admitting defeat with numerous wire and paper mache attempts, I bought her handmade Loki helmet hat from Etsy!

"But Mum I don't know who this is!  Is it supposed to be a teddybear or something?"

I told him no touching the fembots.

With Master Chief

Fighting Loki....as Lady Loki.  Yes, it's confusing.

This guy said he spent a year making his astounding Iron Man costume.

This rabbit was evil.  So evil looking the kids were drawn to it.......

I still don't know.......

If you have tweenie aged kids then you know this is Slender.

Storm.  Check her eyes!  Creepy!

And Miss 5 LOVED Princess Peach.
Her husband was Mario and their baby was dressed as a mushroom.....so cute!

As for me, I was happy to find several Kawaii themed stalls inside the building to look at.  I found a stall with super cheap Erstwilder jewellery and $5 super hero brooches.  There was also steampunk clothing to drool over and Baby Burgers mayo chips to eat.....so I ended up being pretty entertained.

Next up, Comic Con in July!

Supernova Comic Nails

On the weekend was Supernova in Melbourne.  Photos coming of that tomorrow, but here are the nails I created for the day!

I used OPI Suzy Says Feng Shui, Designer Brands White and OPI Red my Fortune Cookie for the bases and my new fave Dead Set Babes Zap Bam Pow for the glitter.  I stamped with a Moyou plate.

Late night last minute photos aren't the best.  They looked pretty damn cool in real life.
Did anyone else go to Supernova?
